Miracle Story #3
“I have been either working or volunteering in the children’s ministry at our church off and on for the last 17 years. We had only been in the newer building a little while, and one day while I was in there the office manager came to me and handed me a prayer request.
She said “Tammey, you should know this person. She has three children.”
It was an anonymous request and it was a very deeply thought prayer request, meaning that something really bad could have happened to this person and that she was contemplating some things. And as she turned to walk away and I was holding the prayer request and I read it over, I heard audibly the person’s name of who it was. And at that point I looked around thinking, ‘Who’s talking to me?’ And right then I knew it was God because he told me the person’s name. This was an anonymous prayer request. And nobody else was around. There are over two thousand people that go to our church and there is no way I could have known everybody and who it was. It had to be God. And he said it so quickly.
So I went and told someone else in the office and we went together to go tell the pastor.
He said, “Well you need to get out there and go see if something has already happened or talk to this person.”
So we went to her home. And of course at that time we were kind of scared because no one answered the door when we got there. So we walked around to the back of the house and did a little peering into the windows because we were worried that something may have already happened. And then right as we were walking around to the front of the house, she drove up with her children in her vehicle.
When she got out of the car she looked at me and she said, “What are you doing here?”
And I looked at her and I told her we had received her prayer request. And she just kind of fell into my arms and started crying. She asked me how we knew it was her and I told her that God told me her name, that we had just received the prayer request and bam, he did it. So then we went into the home with her and prayed for her. We sat and talked to her and we ministered to her. I told her God loves her and that he didn’t want her to do what she said she was going to do, and not to feel like it was the end of the world. It took a while, but she was not with who she needed to be with.
A lot of people really struggle with the idea of hearing God’s voice. I had heard him before, but on things that were not quite that flamboyant. Not anything quite like this. You always think, ‘Was that God or was that somebody else?’ We actually had this discussion one time in Bible study because some people were like, “I’ve never heard his voice. What did it sound like?”
I can’t really even describe what it was like. Her name was just loud and I don’t know if anybody else would have heard it if they had been around at the time. Maybe it wasn’t loud but to me, I actually looked around because at first I thought somebody was talking to me. There was no one there. It had to be him.
So sometimes he does talk to us audibly, and sometimes he doesn’t. At this time I really knew that it was very important for him to tell me her name, and for us to take that step and to reach out to her because she really needed us to do that. So always be listening for God’s voice. It might not be audibly, it might actually even be in someone else. You just need to be very in tune and aware. We’re all so busy today and we don’t always realize when God is speaking to us.
And we all struggle sometimes when we pray. He doesn’t always answer our prayers immediately, but then sometimes he does. This was something that evidently he felt like was very important for me to do and I kind of feel like still today I’m tied to this person. I try to encourage her. That has kind of been my mission ever since then, to really encourage her.
We just need to listen and be still sometimes when God is working. It was Him.”
